“‘Dying to Live!’ Becoming Human in the Early Church”

On the 30th of July, Fr Daniel, Dean of St Cyril’s, along with a number of students, made their way to our good friends at St Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Theological College (sagotc.edu.au), to hear an enlightening talk by Fr John Behr. Fr John is the Dean and Professor of Patristics at the prestigious St Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in New York. The title of the talk was: “‘Dying to Live!’ Becoming Human in the Early Church.” It was for our students both illuminating and engrossing; revealing the way in which the Early Church recognised Christ first and foremost in the “opening of Scripture” and the “breaking of bread.”

Fr John is currently visiting Australia at the fortuitous invitation of His Grace Bishop Suriel of Melbourne, and is presently delivering a course on “The School of Alexandria” at St Athanasius Coptic Orthodox Theological College  (SAC). We thank Bishop Suriel for his immense vision in inviting Fr John Behr and enriching Orthodox theological education throughout Australia. Truly a night to be remembered!
