Dean meets with Pope Tawadros II
During his trip to Egypt, on the 16th of January, the Dean of St Cyril’s, Fr. Daniel Fanous, and Fr. Anthony St Shenouda, met with His Holiness Pope Tawadros II. During their discussion, Pope Tawadros was overjoyed with the progress of St Cyril’s and gave his whole-hearted blessing to the College.
His Holiness has made clear almost immediately from his enthronement that he supports innovation in theological education, and is working towards his vision of establishing world-class institutions in and outside Egypt.
“One thing that strikes you,” said Fr. Daniel of the meeting, “is that though the Patriarch is an incredibly deep and erudite man, he disarms you with just how well-grounded he is.” After meeting with His Holiness, Fr. Daniel travelled around Egypt researching for his current project, and was surprised more than once to hear that many (even in the monasteries deep within the desert) were following the progress of St Cyril’s.
