Coptic Congress 2016

Scholars of all things Coptic, travelled to Claremont in California for the 11th International Congress of Coptic Studies – a prestigious event that gathered more than 200 preeminent Coptic scholars from around the globe. It was held from July 25-30 at Claremont Graduate University, and was organised by the International Association of Coptic Studies (IACS).

Fr Daniel Fanous, Dean of St Cyril’s, along with Fr Anthony St Shenouda, Lecturer in Monasticism & Coptic Studies at St Cyril’s, were fortunate to be invited to the event. Fr Daniel presented a paper entitled, “Saint Menas in Old Cairo: The Intersection
of Reform in the House of Father Mina the Recluse (the future Kyrillos VI)“; whereas Fr Anthony presented a paper on “The Arrow Prayer in the Coptic Tradition.” Both papers were well received, and contributed to the fascinating scholarly examination of Coptic studies that was prevalent at the Congress.

The 2020 Coptic Congress will be held in Brussels, Belgium, and is held every four years in major cities around the world.
