Youth Ministry Day
On Saturday 2 December, St Cyril’s joined the Diocese Youth Committee (SYC) to hold a second Youth Ministry Day at St Mary & St Merkourios Church in Rhodes. After beginning the day with a Divine Liturgy, more than fifty youth leaders and servants from more than 10 different parishes across the Diocese came together to hear Fr Michael Salib (St Athanasius’ College, Melbourne) present important insights on Orthodox youth ministry, and to discuss their own challenges and strategies with each other. Following up from last year’s Youth Ministry Day which featured Steve Christoforou speaking on why youth leave the Church, Fr Michael presented research about what Orthodox youth need from their church communities, focusing particularly on the need for youth servants to build meaningful, one-on-one relationships with young people, and the importance of incorporating youth into the liturgical life of the Church.
