Fr John Anthony McGuckin  was the Nielsen Professor of Early Church History at Union Theological Seminary (1997–2017), as well as Professor of Byzantine Christianity at Columbia University in New York (2002–2017). He is the author of St Cyril of Alexandria and the Christological Controversy, St Gregory of Nazianzus: An Intellectual Biography and the editor and translator of the standard English edition of St Cyril’s On the Unity of Christ. He currently serves on the faculty of church history at the University of Oxford and a fellow of the Royal Historical Society. He is an archpriest of the Romanian Orthodox Church and serves a parish in England.
