This February, St Cyril’s is holding the first youth day in an exciting new series: From Theology, With Love, bringing important messages from Orthodox theology to youth in the Christian community. The theme of the first day is:

“Then God said …”
It all started with a Word: God commanded, and they were created. Light shone out of darkness. But the story wasn’t finished yet: not until the One who created it all “in the beginning” came to save it “at the end”, at the climax of the creation story, where the Creator became the Saviour of the world. Come along to St Cyril’s first youth day in the series From Theology, With Love to find out how.

Writing Competition

St Cyril’s is also hosting an international writing competition on the day’s theme. Submit a 700–1000 word reflection on one of the following prompts:

(1) On the Cross, the Creator became the Saviour.

(2) We love, because He first loved us.

(3) How long would I have lasted in the Garden?

Entries will be judged on how well they apply the theological idea in the prompt to the realities and challenges of Christian life today. They will be assessed on three key criteria: insightsources and style.

  • Insight: Tell us something meaningful, something powerful. Consider writing about how the theological idea in your prompt relates to service or other aspects of real life.
  • Sources: Draw on the writings and lives of the saints, hymns and liturgical prayers to communicate your message.
  • Style: Don’t just write: write well. Write with passion, with intention.

Send your submission to submissions@stcyrils.edu.au by 17 January 2020.
