Congratulations Dr. Samuel Kaldas!

We are pleased to announce the publication of “The Cambridge Platonists and Early Modern Philosophy: Inventing the Philosophy of Religion” (Cambridge University Press, May 2024) by Dr Samuel Kaldas, Lecturer in Philosophy & Theology.

The book is the result of Dr Kaldas’ doctoral research and an Anderson Research Fellowship at the University of Sydney. It offers a groundbreaking study of the early intellectual development of the Cambridge Platonists during the English Civil Wars, foregrounding their role in shaping the modern philosophy of religion.

By examining debates around predestination, the nature of God, and the place of reason in faith, Dr Kaldas situates the Cambridge Platonists within the wider context of seventeenth-century religious controversy—providing both a fresh interpretation and an accessible introduction to their thought.

This work marks a significant contribution to the fields of early modern philosophy, theology, and intellectual history. To purchase a copy of Dr. Kaldas’ work, please visit: https://www.cambridge.org/…/E693DC05664A26D25B37032329A..
